This blogpost provides a general checklist which should be followed prior to performing any annotation tasks.
Note, this is not an exhaustive list of all of the functions within ELAN. Rather, this checklist provides the essential steps which must be checked before any annotations are added to the coding file.
Step 1. Open coding files [blogpost 3]
Step 2: Ensure ELAN is set to annotation mode [blogpost 4]
Step 3. Check media file has been assigned correctly (player info) [blogpost 7]
Step 4: Set the correct coding volume and rate [blogpost 6]
Step 5: Set video zoom (200-300%) [blogpost 7]
Step 6: Set annotation zoom (300%) [blogpost 9]
Step 7: Show/hide tiers [blogpost 9]
Step 8: Start annotating! [blogpost 10-13]
Step 9: Save all work - continually! [blogpost 14]
